Hola. Here’s my first actual in Spain post. After an overnight flight I landed in Madrid, and spent Thursday touring the city.

Madrid is a GREAT place.  The capital of Spain, but very comfortable and easy to navigate. I expected more of a Washington or Rome vibe, but it’s very laid back. I saw virtually no one, even business people dressed in suits, etc. everyone looked like they were hanging out in East Aurora or  Elmwood on a Saturday. In fact, there were more T-shirts in American than in Spanish.

Of course, Madrid is a bit older than EA. Saw some incredible things....

This is the Plaza Del Sol, the main square of Madrid. It’s the center of the city, and actually the center of Spain. The bronze mile marker zero is the center of the country. It’s in front of the red and white  county governors office.

The office was Franco’s police headquarters during the revolution. And apparently when people were being interrogated they often”jumped” to their deaths during the questioning.

This was also the place where the Spanish first fought Napoleon’s invading army.

Now Mickey Mouse is there, losing his head!

  3. The feel of the city sounds like my style. And I agree that it’s interesting that you are in Spain and somehow Mickey appears.
